Omdia's latest 'Smartphone Satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) Market Forecast' report indicates that by 2030, the number of monthly active users of global satellite direct-to-device (D2D) services will reach 411 million, with revenue growing to $11.99 billion. Between 2026 and 2030, the average annual growth rates for users and revenue are expected to reach as high as 80.1% and 49.4%, respectively. Omdia predicts that cellular standard-based devices, namely smartphones that directly connect to satellites via 4G or 5G technologies, will become the dominant model in the smartphone satellite D2D market, accounting for over 95% of the total global monthly active users by 2030. Looking ahead, 6G is expected to become the first mobile communication system to natively integrate Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technology, with the first 6G standard version anticipated to be released in 2029. Therefore, as the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks deepens, satellite D2D services are poised to gain further momentum in the 2030s.
