On March 10, Apple released the white paper 'Studio Display XDR Technical Overview,' disclosing two core display technologies. The first is the 'Full Calibration' feature, which will be available in a future macOS update. This feature allows for re-calibration of the monitor at the hardware level in conjunction with a compatible spectroradiometer, though it will not be available at launch as products are already precisely calibrated and include built-in reference presets before leaving the factory. The second is Apple's self-developed Apple CMF 2026 color system, which enhances on-screen visual consistency by more accurately simulating human color perception. Products are independently calibrated using this system at the factory, while maintaining support for the traditional CIE 1931 system. Apple is collaborating with CIE to plan the transformation of relevant research into industry standards.
