As reported by Tomshardware, Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has put forth a proposal to collaborate with the U.S. government in constructing a state-of-the-art panel factory within the United States, entailing an investment that could reach up to $13 billion. Both sides have expressed keen interest and are currently immersed in vigorous negotiations. This initiative forms a component of Japan's expansive $550 billion investment strategy in the U.S., designed to reinvigorate Japan's standing within the display panel sector.

Established in 2012, JDI emerged from the consolidation of the display divisions of Toshiba, Hitachi, and Sony. Nevertheless, in recent times, it has witnessed a substantial erosion of its market share and a deterioration in its financial health, largely attributable to the intense competition posed by Chinese manufacturers. This competitive pressure has culminated in 11 successive years of financial losses. Through the establishment of a factory in the U.S., JDI aims to primarily manufacture products tailored for the automotive, medical, and defense industries, seeking to orchestrate a turnaround by leveraging differentiated competition.
