Recently, the domestic laptop brand Chuwi has found itself entangled in a CPU deception controversy. The company's CoreBook X laptop was marketed with the claim that it boasted the latest Ryzen 5 7430U processor. However, the reality was starkly different—the device was actually fitted with the older Ryzen 5 5500U processor. To compound matters, the chip's true identity was concealed through BIOS firmware tampering, resulting in conventional detection tools erroneously identifying it as the newer processor. Upon closer inspection and verification through disassembly, the OPN number etched on the chip was found to be that of the 5500U, highlighting a substantial performance disparity when compared to the touted 7430U. Chuwi's response to the controversy was notably ambiguous, merely alluding to variations in production batches and inventory management challenges, and noting that an internal investigation had been launched. Yet, the company stopped short of explicitly acknowledging the mistake, a stance that has only served to fuel consumer discontent.
