The statement confirmed that the U.S. military used a laser to shoot down a drone belonging to Customs and Border Protection along the U.S.-Mexico border, with the incident occurring far from populated areas and with no civilian aircraft nearby. The statement also indicated that the agencies will enhance cooperation and communication to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Previously, there was also an incident where Customs and Border Protection used military lasers to shoot down balloons in the U.S.
