International Data Corporation (IDC) states that due to soaring memory chip prices driving up costs, the global smartphone market will experience the largest-ever annual decline in 2026, with shipments expected to drop by 12.9% to 1.12 billion units, the lowest level in more than a decade. IDC analyzes that the strong demand for memory from data centers has squeezed consumer electronics supply, forcing manufacturers to raise prices. The average selling price of smartphones is expected to rise by 14% this year, reaching a record high of $523.
