Recently, there have been online rumors that the Meizu smartphone team is about to disband, potentially marking the end of its 19-year history of independent research and development. Multiple sources have revealed that Meizu's smartphone business has effectively come to a halt, with plans to officially exit the market by March 2026. Previously, Dreame and Doubao had separately held discussions with Meizu regarding acquisition and collaboration, but no agreements were reached. Li Nan, a former Meizu executive, posted on Weibo, indirectly confirming this news. According to disclosures on the Maimai platform, Xingji Meizu is undergoing business adjustments, including discontinuing its smartphone business, implementing large-scale layoffs, independently operating its Flyme Auto in-car system business, and retaining the Meizu brand. Meizu was once a pioneer in domestic smartphones, selling over 20 million units in 2015 and being grouped alongside Xiaomi and other brands as the "Four Domestic Dragons." However, the failure of the PRO 7 series in 2017 marked a turning point from prosperity to decline for Meizu, with its market share continuously declining and being categorized under "Others" for five consecutive years. In 2022, Meizu was acquired by Geely, but by 2025, its smartphone sales remained below one million units. Against the backdrop of intensifying market concentration in the smartphone industry and limited survival space for small and medium-sized manufacturers, the cross-border integration of consumer electronics and smart vehicles has emerged as a new trend. The era of Meizu's independent smartphone R&D may be coming to an end, but its software technology accumulations are expected to continue in other forms.
