Both Android and iOS platforms allow users to access quick actions by long-pressing app icons on the home screen, including a system-provided uninstall option. However, certain apps mislead users by incorporating fake uninstall buttons in their quick menus. These deceptive practices include concealing the genuine uninstall option within nested menus, increasing the risk of unintended taps by emphasizing “retention-promoting” options or reducing the size of the “confirm uninstall” button, and even tempting users to abandon uninstallation by offering incentives and rewards. While such tactics may temporarily boost user retention, they ultimately degrade the user experience and violate regulations set by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which mandate that “apps must be uninstallable without malicious hindrance.”
