As per reports from January 2026, Apple is in the process of developing ultra-slim Face ID components specifically for the iPhone Air 2 and a foldable iPhone model. This move is aimed at overcoming the hurdles associated with integrating biometric recognition technology into devices with thinner profiles. Should the development of these components prove successful, they are not only anticipated to be featured in the iPhone Air 2 but could also pave the way for introducing Face ID to products such as the MacBook Pro, thereby revolutionizing their biometric recognition capabilities. Presently, given the iPhone Air 2's remarkably slim profile of just 5.6 millimeters, incorporating under-display Face ID technology might not be feasible. As a result, Apple may explore alternative solutions, like implementing Touch ID on the side power button. Consequently, the release date for the iPhone Air 2 might be pushed back to autumn 2027.
