Apple has successfully settled a class-action lawsuit concerning the "unauthorized and deliberate recording" by Siri, and has been rolling out compensation to qualifying users since mid-last year. The legal action was initiated in 2019. While Apple initially refuted any misconduct and subsequently bolstered Siri's privacy safeguards, the tech giant ultimately opted to settle. To be eligible for compensation, users must have bought Apple devices that support Siri between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, and encountered the issue of "Siri activating unexpectedly." Each user is entitled to claim compensation for a maximum of five devices, with the total compensation fund amounting to $95 million. It is projected that each device will receive roughly $8.02, with a maximum individual compensation of around $40.1. At present, certain users have already received their compensation payments.
