Apple's inaugural foldable smartphone, the iPhone Fold, has achieved fresh milestones. The core “crease-free” screen technology has been perfected, leading Foxconn to establish a dedicated production line. Nonetheless, the hinge and battery technologies have yet to reach the standards required for mass production, presenting significant hurdles for the product's market introduction.
The iPhone Fold prototype sports a 7.74-inch inner screen and a 5.49-inch outer screen. The test version flaunts a battery capacity that surpasses that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Samsung is the sole supplier of its foldable screen, while the battery supplier is still under consideration. Although Apple has conquered the liquid metal material technology, challenges remain for large-scale production.
The iPhone Fold is anticipated to debut in autumn 2026, with a price tag of around $2,000, and might feature the A20 series chip. Furthermore, Apple is planning to unveil a foldable 18.8-inch iPad around 2028. However, due to technical constraints, its launch could be delayed until 2029 or beyond.
On October 31, Apple released its financial results for the fourth quarter and the entire fiscal year of 2025. The company reported record-breaking total revenue for the corresponding period and a substantial rise in net profit. Nevertheless, revenue in Greater China experienced a 3.6% decline, making it the sole market worldwide where revenue dropped.
