Sony mobile phones have made a quiet exit from the Chinese market. On November 6, 2025, the official WeChat public account of Sony Xperia voluntarily deregistered itself. The homepage functions were disabled, and historical content became inaccessible. Prior to this, its official Weibo account had ceased updates for several months. Additionally, the Chinese official website had removed mobile phone products from its categories, and the exclusive domain name stopped functioning in August. Sony mobile phones made their entry into the Chinese market in 2013. Initially, they managed to attract niche customer groups with their exceptional audio - visual design. However, several issues hindered their progress. There were significant delays in adapting their systems to local requirements. The number of offline outlets was scarce, limiting their physical presence. Moreover, the repair costs for their products were relatively high. As domestic Chinese brands began to rise in prominence, Sony's market share kept dwindling. Eventually, these cumulative factors led to their complete withdrawal from the Chinese market.
