On Thursday, the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal turned down Apple's application for appeal. Last month, the tribunal had already determined that Apple had misused its dominant market position in the app sector by imposing exorbitant and unjustifiable fees. This ruling opens the door for Apple to potentially face fines exceeding £1 billion. Nevertheless, even though its appeal application was rejected, Apple retains the right to directly lodge an appeal with the UK's Court of Appeal. A spokesperson for Apple mentioned that the company intends to pursue further legal steps and underscored that the tribunal's ruling presented a skewed understanding of the app economy, failing to acknowledge the advantages Apple provides to both developers and consumers.
