Sony Group Corporation has followed in Nintendo's footsteps, mirroring its Switch 2 strategy by slashing the price of the PlayStation 5 in Japan and launching a new model tailored specifically for the Japanese market. On Wednesday, Sony made an announcement through a livestream, revealing that the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which will be available exclusively in this region, would be priced at 55,000 yen (roughly equivalent to $357). This price cut represents a nearly 25% reduction from its original price of 72,980 yen and is also notably lower than the $499 price point in the U.S. market. Consumers can start placing pre-orders for the console on Thursday, with the official release slated for November 21.
