Recently, Google has rolled out new regulations aimed at enforcing strict controls over excessive wake - lock metrics for Android app developers. In practical terms, if an app causes the device to wake up for a cumulative period exceeding 2 hours within a 24 - hour timeframe without justifiable reasons, or if it consumes more than 4.44% of the device's total battery capacity per hour on gadgets like smartwatches, a red warning bar will be prominently displayed on the app's download page in the Google Play Store. This serves as a clear alert to users that the app may be rapidly draining their battery. These new regulations are set to come into effect on March 1st, 2026. The overarching goal is to put a stop to apps' covert background power consumption and ultimately elevate the overall user experience.
