On November 5, 2025, Apple rolled out iOS 26.2 Beta 1 to developers. Following the update, users in Japan are now able to install third-party app stores on their devices. As evidenced by screenshots shared by netizens, iPhones running this beta version are now capable of installing third-party app stores, including AltStore PAL and Epic Games, and subsequently downloading apps from these platforms. Prior to this, Apple had already introduced this functionality within the EU region. The expansion of this feature to Japan is in alignment with the local 'Guidelines on Mobile Software Competition Law,' which is set to come into effect on December 18. Moreover, iOS 26.2 Beta 1 also brings new features to the table, such as 'Enhanced Security Alerts.'
