Samsung Takes the Crown in the Smartphone Market for the Third Quarter

As per the most recent report issued by market research firm Omdia, the global shipment volume of smartphones hit 320.1 million units in the third quarter of 2025, spanning from July to September. This figure marked a 3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Among all the contenders, Samsung emerged as the global frontrunner, shipping 60.6 million units and securing a 19% market share. This represented a significant 6% year-on-year growth. Apple trailed behind in second place, with 56.5 million units shipped, showing a 4% rise from the previous year. Xiaomi, in third place, shipped 43.4 million units, a modest 1% increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, Transsion and Vivo both managed to ship over 28 million units each, claiming the fourth and fifth positions respectively. When it comes to regional markets, there was a year-on-year decline in shipments in North America and Greater China. On the contrary, the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa regions experienced robust growth.
