The '2025 Top 10 Chinese Enterprises by Technological Innovation Capability Across Industries' list reveals some intriguing shifts within the consumer electronics and electrical sector. In the ranking of technological innovation capability for this industry, Xiaomi has dethroned Midea, securing the number-one position, while Gree finds itself in eighth place.

Out of the 397 enterprises included in this industry assessment, 371 have made their R&D investments public, with the total amount reaching a staggering 270.631 billion yuan. Among these, the top 10 enterprises poured 128.573 billion yuan into R&D, representing nearly half of the total investment.

Xiaomi's technological innovation capability score stands nearly 10 points higher than Midea's. In 2024, Xiaomi outperformed Midea in terms of R&D investment, the number of R&D personnel, and R&D intensity. Its automotive business emerged as the biggest catalyst propelling Xiaomi's R&D investment forward. In the first half of 2025, the gap in R&D investment growth between Xiaomi and Midea continued to widen.

When it comes to R&D output, however, Midea scored higher than Xiaomi. Moreover, companies like Hikvision have also managed to secure a spot in the top 10 of this prestigious list.
