On Monday, French news outlet l’Informé disclosed that a French court has levied a €48 million (roughly equivalent to $55.9 million) penalty on Apple. This decision came after regulatory authorities determined that the tech giant's longstanding iPhone marketing strategies were unfair to mobile network operators. The court in Paris ruled that Apple's marketing agreements, which compelled operators to shoulder the costs of iPhone advertising, mandated them to purchase set quantities at predetermined retail prices, and permitted Apple to utilize their brands and patents without any charge, were all in violation of the law. The legal proceedings were initiated in 2013 by the DGCCRF, an anti-fraud organization operating under the aegis of the French Ministry of Finance.
