The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) has declared that the “Universal Fast Charging Solution for Mobile Terminals” standard, designated L.1004, has successfully undergone evaluation and received formal endorsement from ITU-T SG5. This standard was co-developed by CAICT in partnership with Huawei, vivo, and OPPO. Notably, this achievement represents the inaugural globally recognized fast-charging standard established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), with China’s self-developed fast-charging technology highlighted as the exclusive case study. The standard also references pertinent domestic group standards.
Crafted through collaborative research among several leading Chinese manufacturers, this protocol harmonizes diverse fast-charging technologies, ensuring seamless interoperability across brands and devices. Moving forward, a single charger will suffice to deliver rapid charging capabilities to mobile terminals from various manufacturers, thereby mitigating electronic waste and aligning with the principles of sustainable development. ITU-T, the telecommunication standardization arm of the ITU, oversees this initiative, with SG5 concentrating on research in environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation, and the circular economy.
