Following the significant surge in device upgrades spurred by the Apple iPhone 17 series, Apple has already commenced its preparations for the iPhone 18 series. This new series is slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2026. As per a report from the South Korean media outlet The Bell, Apple has jumped the gun on its component procurement strategy, with a particular focus on memory chips. The tech giant has placed an order with Samsung Electronics for 13 million 10nm LPDDR5X DRAM chips. These chips are set to be delivered in the second quarter of 2026. It's anticipated that the entire iPhone 18 series will be equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory as standard. This is to adequately cater to the memory requirements posed by on - device AI functions.
