On October 22, 2025, the domestic edition of the iPhone Air was officially launched, heralding China's smartphone market's foray into the eSIM age. Nevertheless, following their purchase of the model, some netizens recounted being turned away from China Telecom stores when attempting to activate eSIM services, solely due to being over 60 years old. In response to these reports, China Telecom store personnel clarified that, effective October 22, the eSIM service is subject to an age restriction, allowing only individuals aged between 18 and 60. This limitation stems from the fact that the service is currently undergoing a trial operation phase. China Telecom's customer service representatives also corroborated this policy and noted that adjustments might be implemented in the future, contingent upon real-world circumstances. In contrast, China Unicom and China Mobile do not enforce an upper age limit for eSIM card registration. China Unicom mandates that users be at least 16 years old, while China Mobile requires them to be a minimum of 18 years old.
