The Apple Vision Pro headset, which incorporates the M5 chip, is officially hitting the shelves today, with the Chinese domestic version priced starting at 29,999 yuan. While the new headset doesn't boast major functional breakthroughs, there has been a significant shift in its production process, with assembly now occurring in Vietnam. This marks a contrast to the initial production of the first Vision Pro model, which featured the M2 chip and was manufactured in China. At present, the bulk of Apple's iPhone production still takes place in China. However, the production capacity for most devices earmarked for the U.S. market is gradually being relocated to other regions. For example, the primary iPhone production capacity for the U.S. market has already been transferred to India. In the meantime, Vietnam has become the manufacturing hub for the majority of AirPods and Apple Watch products, and Apple's upcoming line of smart home devices will also be produced there. Moreover, Apple has expanded the production of certain Mac models to Thailand and Malaysia, and has struck a deal with Indonesia to locally manufacture some components of the AirPods Max. Nevertheless, the production of the new double-loop woven headband remains in China, and it's still uncertain whether the Vision Pro production will entirely transition to Vietnam. Furthermore, Apple is also championing localized production initiatives, such as the plan to manufacture the cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches in the United States, with some high-end Mac Pro models being assembled in Texas.
