The launch of Apple's inaugural foldable iPhone is likely to be delayed until 2027. This postponement stems from Apple's need to further solidify the specifications of crucial components, notably the hinges. Consequently, the prospects of mass - producing the device in the third quarter of 2026 and releasing it in September appear rather slim.

Initially, Apple had set its sights on shipping between 10 million and 15 million units of the foldable iPhone. However, it has since revised its production plans for screen panels. The initial projection of 13 million units has been scaled down to 11 million, with the potential for an even further reduction to 9 million units. Should the foldable iPhone hit the market in 2026, the actual production volume in its first year is anticipated to range from 5 million to 7 million units.

In other iPhone - related news, the iPhone 17 series is progressing steadily, and the supply chain is mulling over the possibility of ramping up production. On the flip side, the iPhone Air has not fared well in the market. In light of this poor market response, Apple is considering slashing production by 1 million units by the end of the year.
