South Korean media outlets have reported that Samsung is poised to unveil its inaugural tri-fold smartphone at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, slated for October 31 to November 1. The smartphone is anticipated to hit the market officially in November. Since Huawei introduced the Mate XT last year, the market has seen a dearth of other mass-producible tri-fold smartphones, positioning Samsung as Huawei's primary rival in this segment.
Insider information hints that Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone might be christened the Galaxy G Fold. It boasts a distinctive G-shaped folding mechanism, splitting the screen into three segments. The screens on both the left and right sides fold inward towards the center. This design ensures that when the phone is folded, the screen is safely tucked away inside the device, providing enhanced protection. Nevertheless, for everyday use, an extra external screen will be necessary. It's also worth noting that this model is expected to be bulkier than the Huawei Mate XT.
Initially, this new smartphone will be produced in limited numbers and will be exclusively available in the South Korean and Chinese markets. The price tag is estimated to surpass 20,000 yuan.
