On the afternoon of September 16, a significant safety mishap took place within XPENG AEROHT's electric vertical take - off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft project. Two eVTOL aircraft collided and crashed while in mid - flight. A thick plume of smoke rose from the crash site, prompting firefighters to rush to the scene promptly to put out the ensuing flames.
One of the aircraft managed to execute a normal landing. However, the other aircraft suffered damage to its fuselage and caught fire during the landing procedure. Media reports indicate that the root cause of the accident was an inadequate flight separation distance between the two aircraft, which ultimately led to their contact.
