The French government's cybersecurity agency has revealed that on September 3, Apple issued threat alerts to a number of users, cautioning that their devices might have fallen prey to spyware. In these alerts, Apple explained that it had identified highly tailored and precise targeted assaults on user devices, frequently launched with consideration of the user's identity or behavioral patterns. Apple noted that although it couldn't verify the attacks with absolute certainty, it had a high degree of confidence in its detection findings and urged users to treat them with the utmost seriousness. Since 2021, Apple has been dispatching such alerts to users across more than 150 countries and territories. This particular attack took advantage of the CVE-2025-43300 zero-day flaw in the Image I/O framework, which has been leveraged in 'exceptionally sophisticated' targeted campaigns. Apple has addressed the vulnerability by enhancing boundary check protocols and advises all users to promptly install the most recent security patches.
