Technology behemoth Amazon is ramping up its foray into the augmented reality (AR) glasses arena, with two distinct models in the pipeline, codenamed 'Amelia' and 'Jayhawk'. Specifically, 'Amelia' is tailored for delivery personnel, with a projected debut as early as the second quarter of 2026 and an initial production run of around 100,000 units. On the other hand, 'Jayhawk' is aimed at the general consumer market, with an expected launch slated for late 2026 or early 2027. While both models share underlying technologies, the consumer-focused 'Jayhawk' boasts a full-color display, a sleeker and more lightweight design, and integrates AR display technology from Meta-Bounds.

Beyond Amazon and Meta, industry heavyweights like Google and Apple are also actively jockeying for position in the burgeoning AR glasses sector. In the near term, the spotlight will shine on Meta's Connect 2025 conference next Wednesday, where the much-anticipated Hypernova AR glasses will make their debut, alongside potential updates to the Ray-Ban collaboration.

It's noteworthy that Amazon is no stranger to the smart glasses industry, having introduced Echo Frames as early as 2019 and already releasing two iterations. The upcoming next-generation product is set to incorporate camera functionality, further solidifying Amazon's commitment to this evolving market.
