At its all-hands meeting on July 31, ByteDance detailed its comprehensive performance adjustment strategy, designed to mitigate internal competition and bolster promotional fluidity. The company emphasized that the distinction between the M and M+ performance levels is minimal, and an M- rating does not equate to dismissal. It is anticipated that the turnover rate among top-performing employees will stand at 5% in 2024. ByteDance will also intensify its talent acquisition efforts and focus on lower-level employees who have consistently demonstrated high performance yet have not been promoted. The company has revised its internal job transfer policy, no longer mandating an M+ rating for eligibility, resulting in an increased proportion of participants. ByteDance has dismissed the notion that the "average tenure is 7 months" and shared employee tenure data to clarify the situation. Furthermore, the high-performance incentive policy has been expanded to encompass the entire organization, with adjustments made to bonus caps across various positions.
