This year, the integration of generative AI within the Steam platform has witnessed an astonishing 800% surge, with nearly 8,000 games now leveraging this technology. This accounts for 7% of the entire Steam game library and a fifth of all games released in 2025. While Steam actively encourages developers to voluntarily disclose their AI usage, it is estimated that the actual number of games utilizing generative AI could be even greater. Among the disclosed cases, 60% involve the creation of virtual assets, encompassing characters, artwork, and backgrounds. Additionally, AI is being applied to sound effects, text generation, marketing materials, code writing, and content moderation. A survey conducted by the Game Developers Conference unveiled that 52% of developers' companies are currently using generative AI tools, despite only 9% of companies initially expressing interest, with 27% explicitly stating they were uninterested.
