On July 16, local time, Mexican President López Obrador stated that in response to the indiscriminate imposition of tariffs by US President Trump on numerous countries, he decided to fortify trade cooperation between Mexico and Canada following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. López Obrador underscored the importance of respecting the trade agreement among the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Prior to this, Trump sent letters to the leaders of 14 countries, including Mexico and Canada, warning that if these nations failed to sign trade agreements with the United States by August 1, they would face unilateral tariffs imposed by the US.
