Shireen Curry-Hack, the CEO of the UK retail group Co-op, disclosed on Wednesday that the company experienced a cyberattack in April, resulting in the theft of personal data from all its customers. In an interview with BBC News, Curry-Hack explained that hackers had duplicated the list of 6.5 million members. Fortunately, the group swiftly isolated its network before the hackers could deploy ransomware to encrypt the system, thereby averting potentially more severe repercussions.
