The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) recently issued an urgent notice, effective June 28th, prohibiting passengers from bringing power banks onto domestic flights if they lack a 3C mark, have unclear markings, or have been recalled. This directive comes in response to the surge in safety incidents involving power banks on flights in recent years. Statistics reveal that in 2024, there were 37 cases of power banks spontaneously combusting on domestic flights, with 81% of these incidents involving products without 3C certification. Moreover, the first half of 2025 has already seen 15 such incidents, posing a grave threat to aviation safety. As a result, the CAAC has implemented emergency measures to address this issue.
Fortunately, for passengers who find themselves in possession of non-compliant power banks, some airports offer a convenient solution. They provide free temporary storage services, ensuring that travelers do not have to discard their devices. This thoughtful initiative not only addresses the safety concerns but also offers a practical way for passengers to comply with the new regulations.
