The Ministry of Finance in Indonesia has provided clarity on the debated taxation policy for sellers on e-commerce platforms, such as Shopee and Tokopedia, emphasizing that this is not a novel tax but rather a streamlined adjustment to the existing tax administration framework. As per the regulations, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) generating an annual turnover of less than IDR 500 million are exempted from taxation. This initiative is designed to bolster the tax base, address livelihood concerns, and advance the 'Golden Indonesia 2045' vision. To date, the pertinent e-commerce platforms have refrained from publicly commenting on the specifics of this policy.
