Effective June 28, new regulations by the Civil Aviation Administration of China prohibit the carriage of power banks on domestic flights that lack 3C markings, have unclear 3C markings, or have been recalled. A concerning trend has emerged where some of these confiscated power banks are suspected to be entering the second-hand market, being sold at low prices ranging from merely 15 to 30 yuan each. This situation poses hidden safety hazards. These power banks, often equipped with substandard battery cells, are prone to issues such as short circuits and overheating. Despite airports offering temporary storage services, the collection process is cumbersome, and many express delivery companies refuse to accept recalled models of power banks, leaving passengers with no choice but to discard them.
