Researchers at the University of Miami in the United States have introduced a cutting-edge bioinformatics tool named BEREN. Leveraging high-performance computing capabilities, they successfully identified 230 unprecedented megaviruses within marine metagenomic data and mapped out their functions. Additionally, the study revealed 530 novel functional proteins. This groundbreaking achievement enhances viral detection methods and promises to facilitate future monitoring of pollutants and pathogens in aquatic environments.
