The "KAIROS" small solid-fuel rocket, developed by the Japanese space startup Space One, encountered a catastrophic failure during its launch attempt in Wakayama Prefecture. The rocket exploded mere seconds into its ascent, specifically five seconds after liftoff, scattering debris across nearby mountains and forests, which subsequently ignited a fire. This rocket represents a significant endeavor by Space One, aiming to tap into the low-cost satellite launch market. Unfortunately, both its maiden flight in 2024 and this latest attempt in 2025 have ended in disappointment.
Despite these setbacks, Space One has reaffirmed its commitment to improving its technology and persevering towards a successful launch in the future.
