Cathay Pacific Airways has announced a groundbreaking partnership with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), whereby Sinopec will supply sustainable aviation fuel for select flights departing from Hong Kong International Airport. This fuel, produced by Sinopec and blended with conventional aviation fuel, marks a significant step towards more environmentally friendly aviation. Earlier this year, in April, Cathay Pacific utilized sustainable aviation fuel produced by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company at Hong Kong International Airport for the first time. Derived from waste cooking oil and processed using advanced hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids technology, this fuel has secured International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). It is estimated that this fuel can significantly reduce carbon emissions by approximately 80% throughout its entire lifecycle.
