On June 4, transgender boxer Iman Khalif was officially confirmed as biologically male following a gender verification test conducted ahead of the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi. This test was mandated in response to recent inquiries by the World Boxing Organization (WBO). Khalif, who had previously won the boxing championship as a female at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was disqualified from the World Championships amidst gender controversy. Despite being aware of Khalif's gender status, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stood by its decision to allow her to compete. However, the WBO has stipulated that Khalif must undergo the same gender verification process or face ineligibility to participate in future events as a female boxer.
