Meta and Yandex have come under scrutiny for circumventing Android's privacy safeguards by embedding tracking codes across millions of websites globally. These companies exploit local port communication between browsers and native apps, linking web browsing data to users' real identities, thereby undermining user anonymity. Reports indicate that Meta has implemented tracking codes on approximately 5.8 million websites, whereas Yandex has embedded similar codes on roughly 3 million sites. In response, Google has launched an investigation into this matter. However, researchers caution that current solutions have limitations and recommend restricting local port access at the platform level to effectively address the issue.
