If approved by member states, the European Union (EU) will initiate its first measure under the International Procurement Instrument (IPI), enacted in 2022, with the objective of fostering reciprocity in public procurement markets. This step could exacerbate tensions in the EU-China economic and trade relationship, as the EU endeavors to maintain a balanced partnership with China amidst the tariff dispute initiated by former U.S. President Trump. A representative from the European Commission has yet to respond to requests for comment.
