Traditional electric toothbrushes rely on mechanical vibration and bristle friction to remove dental plaque. Recently, Chinese researchers have developed an experimental toothbrush that integrates piezoelectric materials directly into the bristles. During brushing, the mechanical action activates the bristles to generate electric charges, which trigger antibacterial chemical reactions producing reactive oxygen species capable of destroying bacteria. The entire process requires no additional battery power, potentially enabling ordinary toothbrushes to combine mechanical cleaning with active sterilization capabilities.
