MIT's Initiative on the Digital Economy, in collaboration with Accenture, has released a report offering a systematic review of the current state of global quantum technology development across 11 dimensions. China ranks first worldwide in quantum patent applications and leads in both the quantity and influence of quantum communication research; the United States has stronger research influence in quantum computing and ranks first globally in the number of commercial quantum processors in use. In 2025, global quantum technology funding reached USD 10.9 billion, nearly quadrupling year-over-year, with capital concentrating in mature leading enterprises and quantum computing being the field most favored by investors. The number of commercial quantum processors worldwide has grown steadily, with superconductivity as the mainstream technology route; the industry is no longer solely pursuing the number of qubits but is shifting emphasis to core performance metrics such as quantum gate fidelity. However, quantum computers as a whole have yet to surpass classical computers on practical tasks. On the industry side, exploration has begun into deploying quantum processors alongside traditional computing devices in AI data centers; the commercialization maturity of different quantum network applications varies markedly, with applications such as quantum key distribution relatively further along in deployment. In recent years, countries have successively introduced national-level quantum strategies, with policy focus tilting toward industrial deployment and other directions; demand for talent in the quantum field is growing rapidly, and the scale of training for related specialized personnel continues to expand. Overall, global quantum technology is entering a stage of industrial expansion, but still faces many unresolved issues such as hardware error correction and scaling, and ultimate outcomes will need to be verified through actual technical performance and application deployment.
