In the early hours of November 2, supermarkets in Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg, Estonia, and other European countries were hit by hacker attacks that affected their refrigeration and freezing systems. Refrigerator temperatures were remotely raised to 50 degrees Celsius, causing food to spoil. Belgian prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation. This incident is similar to the cyberattack on the refrigeration systems of hundreds of supermarket chains in France on the night of October 11, which caused abnormally high temperatures and led to the spoilage of large quantities of fresh and frozen products. The systems involved in both incidents are related to refrigeration control systems from the Danish manufacturer Danfoss.
