On October 7th, according to the Wall Street Journal, venture capital firm Disruptive is raising up to $10 billion for its new fund, a move that could position it as one of Silicon Valley's top investment firms managing a 'megafund.' Founded by Alex Davis, Disruptive has gained significant market attention for its early investment in Groq, a chip startup, prior to NVIDIA's $20 billion licensing agreement with Groq late last year. Additionally, Disruptive has invested in Reflection AI, a developer of open-source artificial intelligence models. According to sources familiar with the matter, Disruptive has already secured around $7.5 billion in funding commitments and plans to invest this capital in approximately 10 late-stage companies over the next two years. Currently, only a handful of venture capital firms can manage funds of such a massive scale. PitchBook defines venture capital funds exceeding $500 million in size as 'megafunds.'
