On August 27 (local time), Google reached an agreement to pay £260 million (equivalent to roughly $354 million) to settle a class-action lawsuit filed in the UK. This lawsuit alleged that Google had misused its dominant market position by imposing exorbitant commission fees on app developers. The Competition Appeal Tribunal is scheduled to conduct a hearing in September to deliberate on the approval of this settlement agreement. Since August 2018, developers registered in the UK who distribute apps and offer digital content for sale via the Play Store will be entitled to potential compensation, provided they have not chosen to opt out.
