On Thursday, the South Korean government unveiled its ambitious plan to invest a staggering 2.3 trillion won (equivalent to approximately US$1.66 billion) by 2030, with the aim of bolstering domestic research and development efforts in the realm of full-stack humanoid robots. As part of this initiative, South Korea will earmark a budget of 600 billion won in the coming year to establish a robust mass production system specifically designed for humanoid robots. These robots will be customized to meet the needs of ten pivotal industries, and the government is determined to elevate the localization rate of core components from the current 45% to an impressive 80%. By 2027, South Korea has set its sights on procuring 250 domestically manufactured humanoid robots, with the cumulative purchase volume projected to soar to 1,080 units by 2030. These robots will be deployed across universities and public research institutions, fostering innovation and advancement. Furthermore, the Ministry of Planning and Budget of South Korea articulated the nation's aspiration to achieve significant technological breakthroughs in the field of full-stack humanoid robots by 2031. This includes the groundbreaking development of an autonomous robot operating system, marking a major leap forward in robotics technology.
