Recently, a collaborative research team, led by Professor Cheng Zhang and Lecturer Zeyang Liu from the School of Optical and Electronic Information, has made remarkable strides in the development of miniaturized cold atom magneto-optical traps (MOTs). This innovative endeavor was carried out in conjunction with the research group helmed by Researcher Xiaoshi Liu from the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as the team under the guidance of Professor Amit Agrawal from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
The newly devised MOT system is ingeniously crafted from planar optical elements and planar magnetic field components. This design endows the system with several advantageous features, including its compact size, light weight, and low power consumption. Such attributes pave the way for the seamless integration and large-scale production of miniaturized cold atom systems, marking a significant technological advancement. The relevant research findings have been duly published.
