U.S. Federal District Judge Sparker Sorknanan approved the settlement agreement between Elon Musk and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), with Musk paying a $1.5 million fine, marking the end of a regulatory dispute surrounding his acquisition of Twitter (now renamed X). Previously, the SEC accused Musk of failing to promptly disclose information about holding more than 5% of shares during the 2022 acquisition of Twitter, resulting in investor losses, and sought a fine exceeding $200 million. Despite having 'serious reservations' about the settlement, Judge Sorknanan ultimately approved it, with the $1.5 million fine setting a record for the highest penalty for delayed disclosure of securities holdings.
