Siemens Energy collaborates with German shipyard for the first time to build a 2GW offshore converter platform

Siemens Energy has joined forces with Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables to secure a contract from German transmission system operator 50Hertz. The partnership will provide a grid access system for the North Sea Connector 2 offshore wind power integration project. Upon completion, the project will be capable of transmitting up to 2GW of offshore wind power to the mainland. The converter platform will be constructed by the joint venture NSORe, with Siemens Energy supplying the transmission technology and related equipment, approximately 95% of which will be manufactured in its German factories.
